Around 11 pm last Wednesday evening, Fernando Dedman, a 19-year-old Tempe man attacked a girl with the intent to sexually assault her. He at first denied his intentions but then admitted to officers that he saw the girl, 17, get off the bus and “decided to follow her because he wanted to have sex with her.”
The girl was headed to her Mesa apartment. Dedman grabbed her and forced her to get them both into her apartment. The girl stated to police that Dedman then forced her to go back into her bedroom and threw her on her bed. He got on top of her and began touching and kissing her. Dedman told officers that he “tried to unbutton her pants” but was unable to do so. He confirmed the story that the girl gave to the police.
The girl tried to fight back and she told him to leave. He didn’t listen and just continued forcing her to stay on the bed. He finally left her apartment, but since the girl was able to identify Dedman, officers found Dedman and arrested him. He was charged with attempted sexual abuse, burglary, kidnapping, and sexual abuse.
