Phoenix Jewelry Store Owners Shoots Robbers

Criminal Defense

In Phoenix last Monday a jewelry store owner used his handgun against two men attempting to rob his store.

According to reports, Gregory Mills, 24, and Jason Buckingham, 27, entered a jewelry store at 16456 North 32nd Street just before 2:00 pm. The men showed the owner a watch they wanted him to buy. The 61-year-old owner told the men that he was unable to buy the watch because it was missing links in the band.

Police stated that the two men left the store but returned about ten minutes later. Police suspect that the men sprayed the owner with pepper spray so they could use their metal baton to smash the glass of a jewelry display case.

But the store owner took out the handgun he was carrying in his pocket and shot several rounds at the two men. Both of the men were hit once but did not sustain any life threatening injuries.

The owner continued to point his gun at the two suspected robbers until the police arrived.

The two men had to be taken to the hospital for treatment of their minor shot wounds. Mills was released and taken to jail. Buckingham has not been booked as yet.

Police reported that the store owner has not been charged with any crimes since they believe he acted in self-defense. The County Attorney’s Office will review the incident and make the final decision.
