Metrolink Train Crash Inured Victims Stories

Mon, Sep 22, 2008

Personal injury, Train Accidents

Ten days have passed since the horrific Metrolink train crash claimed the lives of 25 people and injured 135 others, like Rachael Moyfa, a foreign-exchange student who remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

The massive impact fractured Moyfa’s skull and damaged her brain, and she remains unconscious and heavily medicated at Los Angeles County-USC Hospital.

Waiting at her bedside are her host parents, Pat and Joanne Abruzzese of Simi Valley. They split shifts at the 27-year-old student’s bedside so one of them is constantly watching over her still, silent and swollen body.

Neither wants to miss the moment when Moyfa opens her eyes and cries out “Mom” or “Dad,” as the Zambia native has taken to calling the Abruzzeses.

“We are focused on her getting better,” Pat Abruzzese said. “I don’t know what that means right now, but I think it means I just want to talk to her.”
