Worrying about your personal injury is usually not a concern when attending a birthday party. But if the party is happening at the same time a neighboring gang party is going on, well then, you may have to consider the chance of a personal injury happening.

A pretty bad fight broke out around the streets of Yuma and Pima, near 13th Place. As a result, a 23-year-old man was shot in his leg and a 43-year-old man sustained injuries to his hand from an explosive device which may have been a pipe bomb.

“It was a large fight,” Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Andy Hill said. “They (gang members) were upset there was a party going on in the neighborhood where they were having a party,” Hill said. “(The others) were just having a birthday party.”

Both of the parties spread to the outside of the homes onto streets and alleys.

When the police arrived they actually saw an SUV flee the scene. They caught up to the SUV later. No one has been arrested at this time.

There are still details that are not clear including how the explosive device ended up at the party. Hill thinks it may have been thrown into the crowd during the fight. It is still not known which party the two injured men were attending.
