Walter McCarthy, 49, was arrested and accused of stabbing the father of his girlfriend, Vernon Cumming.
Cumming was killed at the house he shared with his daughter and his boyfriend McCarthy. The three had been living together for almost three years. The house was purchased by Cumming’s daughter Laurinda Cumming.
A man had come back from walking his dog to find police all over his house. They had found the body of Cumming on the driveway.
Scottsdale police reported that the body of Cumming was found inside the garage of the home located in an upscale community in north Scottsdale.
Police said that McCarthy tried to also attack Cumming’s daughter, however, she was able to escape and run to a neighbor’s house. There she called the police and reported that there was a stabbing. Police arrived to the Talon at Grayhawk home around 6:30 pm.
McCarthy had tried to drag Cumming’s body out of the garage and down the sidewalk about 100 feet. Police arrested him at this time without any resistance. McCarthy has been charged with one count of murder.
Some neighbors described McCarthy as rude and weird. Some others described him as quiet and ‘more or less normal.’
The incident is still under investigation. Police have not commenting one what the motive for the murder was.
