Medical Malpractice

He lost his license to practice medicine just this past March and now Doctor David Wilbirt pleads guilty to charges of conspiracy to the illegal dispensing and distributing of anabolic steroids and money laundering. His finance, Candace Toler also pleaded guilty to the same charges.

Dr. Wilbirt could be looking at a 25 year sentence in jail. But, Dr. Wilbirt is negotiating with federal prosecutors. He has agreed to help federal authorities with a case rooting from Mobile, Alabama. In Mobil, there is a company called Applied Pharmacy Services.

The Drug Enforcement Administration has been trying to nab the doctors that are writing prescriptions for anabolic steroids that the DEA suspects are being filled by Applied Pharmacy. As of today, no one from Applied Pharmacy had been charged for any criminal act.

Along with Dr. Wilbirt and his finance, there are another six people that have pleaded guilty to similar charges.

In 1996, Dr. Wilbirt was reprimanded by the Arizona Medical Board for unprofessional conduct because of his poor patient record keeping as well as making false/fraudulent statements.

In 1998, he received yet another letter but this time for prescribing and dispensing controlled substances of other medical reasons than therapeutic uses and for poor patent record keeping again. The Arizona Medical Board revoked Dr. Wilbirt’s license in March 2008.
