At the intersection of 51st Avenue and Maryland, a pedestrian was hit and killed. This early morning incident is currently under police investigation.
Police have released the name of the pedestrian killed as 65-yearl-old Roy Jones.
It was still dark out around 5:00 am when Jones was killed. Police say that Jones crossed the street from a bus stop. But he did not use a cross walk where he was walking. A Nissan pickup truck struck him while he was crossing the street.
Police have stated that the truck driver, Socorro Hermosillo-Adame, has not been charged with any criminal violations.
Witnesses of the accident told the investigators that Adame really didn’t have time to adjust his driving when Jones stepped out onto the street. Police reported that they do not believe that Adame was speeded or was impaired in any way. They are reporting that this is simply a “tragic accident.”
Jones had been working at Sanderson Ford for the last 47 years and was just one month away from retiring. When he was young, he was run over by a car which caused a mental impairment of his current health.
This is a tragic lesson in the importance of using a crosswalk.
