It was the worst train crash in fifteen years. 25 people died in theMetrolink 111 crash on September 12th. Most of them were sitting in the first car of the train.
The crash occurred when the Metrolink engineer failed to brake which would have allowed the freight train who had the right of way, to pass without incident.
There have been multiple funeral services for those that died in the crash including a candlelight vigil at the train station in Chatsworth. Friday September 19th, family and friends gathered at the station to light over 200 tea light candles in memory of those that died in the crash.
The event was organized by two young ladies, Haley 15, and Kristen, 17, who live in Chatsworth and felt compelled to do organize the vigil. The two teenagers put together 25 handmade candles each bearing the name of one of the people who died in the crash.
The president of the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council, Judy Daniels spoke highly about these two youths, “The two teens wanted to acknowledge not only the people who died but all those on the train at the time. They just wanted a chance for the community to have some closure and to acknowledge all of the people involved.”
