Where will you find most of the kids now any opportunity they get? Well, at their local swimming pool of course. But visiting your local pool may not be an option for you any longer. The Phoenix city pools have closed 29 of their facilities to perform a thorough cleaning. This indefinite closing is a result of 35 people who have become sick because of a parasite they were exposed to and the potential link to these pools.
Both those visiting the pool and staff members reported symptoms after swimming at various Phoenix city pools. Now each of the 29 pools is vigorously being cleaned and in fact is exceeding what the country, state, and federal regulators expect from a public swimming pool facility. They are using double the amount of chlorine they normally used to get the pools as clean and disinfected as possible.
Some of the systems the pool staff and visitors complained about were watery diarrhea.
The pools closed down immediately after confirming that cryptosporidium was found in one of the pools.
The Centers of Disease Control and Protection suggest that anyone who experiences any severe illness or symptoms should seek the medical treatment they need.
